"Flowers"
"Why I Bring You Flowers"
Understudy was made during lockdown. For all of us a strange time. I dug deep into songwriting and it became a haven. This song was written when seeing my dad and his wife in their care home was not possible. I wanted to capture the untutored ritual of the hospital visit. It started as a romantic song I was working on with the extraordinary Kim Richie. Until I hijacked it.
"Saluting Magpies"
Practically my only superstition. Oh, that and lucky pennies. And ladders. And all the other stuff. My first time using a hang drum.
"My Old Friend"
Writing Dreamweaver with Adam Holmes has to be one of the most joyful creative experiences of my life. We wrote this together shortly afterwards. It’s all true.
"I Blame The Booze"
Sometimes you just want sing a daft blues.
"What Have They Done With Tomorrow?"
This seems a reasonable question.
"Paul McCartney 1970"
I have long admired Yvonne Lyon. For a while we have been writing for a project called Things Found In Books. A book opened and a photograph fell out. We will reveal all one day.
